Following almost seven years at the forefront, Lennart Käll, Chief Executive Officer of Swedish gaming powerhouse Svenska Spel, is resigning. Holding the post since 2011, Käll pointed to the attainment of all pre-established objectives and the approaching restructured gaming market as justifications for his departure.

These targets encompassed solidifying Svenska Spel as a responsible gaming entity with a robust market standing, recognized for providing engaging products and encounters.

Käll’s choice arrives as the Swedish administration cements the schedule for its updated licensing framework. Anticipated to receive parliamentary approval in June, the new regulations will become operational on January 1, 2019.

Contemplating his exit, Käll remarked, “Svenska Spel is confronting a reorganized gaming market and fresh competitive terrain. Efforts to adjust the company for this are progressing as planned. We are adequately equipped and eager to contend on a level playing field.” He appended that this presents an exceptional chance for a new CEO to guide Svenska Spel forward.

Käll will maintain his leadership through the summer during the search for his replacement. Erik Strand, Chairman of the Board for Svenska Spel, affirmed that discussions with prospective candidates are already in motion.

Strand conveyed appreciation for the outgoing Käll, remarking, ‘We are deeply indebted to Lennart’s outstanding guidance throughout the preceding seven years. As the gaming enterprise serving the Swedish populace, Svenska Spel stands well-equipped for the reorganization slated to take effect by year’s end.’

Established in 1997 through the amalgamation of two government-owned entities, Penninglotteriet and Tipstjänst, Svenska Spel maintains its central office in Visby, Sweden. The corporation disseminates its offerings via a network encompassing roughly 6,700 representatives, 2,000 eateries, taverns, and bingo establishments, in addition to an online presence.

Käll reminisced about his period in charge, stating, ‘I harbor immense pride in the achievements attained by my executive team, the entire workforce at Svenska Spel, and myself during my time as Chief Executive Officer. We have fulfilled the directives entrusted to us by our stakeholders and have demonstrated our capacity to harmonize accountability with expansion as a gaming entity. Svenska Spel is poised for the emerging gaming landscape.”
