Aston Villa Secures Sponsorship Deal with BK8 Amidst Gambling Reform Debate
The Aston Villa Football Club has partnered with BK8 on a sponsorship agreement that will display the company’s logo on the front of the team’s shirts.
This collaboration is scheduled to continue for three seasons, concluding at the end of the 2025/26 season. A crucial aspect of the deal is a shared dedication to supporting charitable organizations.
Over the past few years, BK8 has been actively engaged with mental health organizations, striving to raise consciousness about this vital matter. Michael Gatt, BK8’s Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, emphasized the company’s commitment to philanthropy, stating, “We are delighted to announce our backing of local charities as a fundamental component of this exciting new chapter with Aston Villa.”
He continued, “The enthusiasm of the supporters was a significant factor in our choice to collaborate with such a renowned club like Aston Villa.”
“As a company deeply invested in football for numerous years, we are dedicated to working closely with our partners on community projects and upholding our obligation in this domain.”
A spokesperson for Aston Villa conveyed excitement about the partnership, remarking, “We are eager to cooperate with BK8 on engaging endeavors that will enhance the visibility of both brands, especially in Southeast Asia.”
Aston Villa recently revealed a partnership with BK8 just before the UK government’s expected release of its white paper on gambling reform. This decision has sparked debate, as the Premier League contemplates prohibiting gambling sponsorships from appearing on the front of team shirts.
The potential ban wouldn’t take effect until the 2026/27 season, allowing Aston Villa to proceed with their agreement with BK8 for the time being.
Numerous clubs, especially those not considered part of the “Big Six,” depend significantly on financial support from gambling enterprises. Aston Villa’s Chief Executive, Christian Purslow, has been outspoken about the proposed prohibition, contending that it would exacerbate the financial disparity between the league’s top teams and the rest. He’s indicated that for clubs in Aston Villa’s position, gambling firms provide double the financial backing compared to sponsors outside the gambling industry.
